Who We Are

Jason A. Schmidt graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Political Science, and as a lawyer from Queen’s University with a Juris Doctor degree. While studying to become a lawyer, Jason was very involved volunteering with Queen’s Legal Aid. Jason articled in a Toronto litigation firm, following which he relocated to Port Hope to join what became Mann McCracken Bebee & Schmidt.
Jason is a lawyer with extensive experience in a broad range of civil litigation matters, and has appeared before the Superior Court, the Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal, Small Claims Court, the Landlord and Tenant Board, the Human Rights Tribunal, the Labour Board, the Social Security Tribunal, and various professional disciplinary bodies.

Scott McCracken was born and raised in Northumberland County. Graduating from the University of Windsor in 2008 with his degree in Mechanical Engineering, Scott returned to Northumberland County to work with his family.
Scott attended Bond University in Australia in 2014 and obtained his Juris Doctor in December 2016, following which he worked at a local law firm. Scott is now an associate with Schmidt Law Legal Services with his main areas of focus being real estate law, wills/estate administration, employment law and business/ corporate law.
During his time in Northumberland County, Scott has developed a strong sense of community and is involved in many organizations in the area such as the Chamber of Commerce, Cobourg Rotary and the Northumberland United Way. Scott is always looking for ways to help his community and extend his network of contacts. Scott’s hobbies and interests include all sports, computers and working with vehicles.

Bridget is a proud resident of Northumberland County, having been born and raised in the area. She studied International Development at the University of Guelph, and completed her LLB at SouthBank University in London, England.
Bridget returned to Canada and practiced civil litigation and provincial prosecutions in Sudbury, ON, before returning to Cobourg to practice in family law and general solicitor’s practice. Bridget practiced in Peterborough as counsel for the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society.
Bridget joined Schmidt Law* in 2021, practicing in the areas of family law, civil litigation, estates and real estate. Bridget relies on her significant experience to provide her clients practical and helpful advice while navigating the court system.
Bridget travelled extensively throughout her youth and has significant experience in volunteering for communities locally and abroad.

Jennifer C. Weeks graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts. Before attending law school, Jennifer obtained her Paralegal Graduate Certificate from Durham College and worked as a licensed Paralegal at a local legal clinic, real estate brokerage and a large software company. Jennifer graduated from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law with a Juris Doctorate earning multiple awards including the Bronze Scholar for her graduating class.
After obtaining her Law degree, Jennifer articled at a medium-sized law firm, worked at a local law firm and a large real estate software company. Jennifer is now an associate at Schmidt Law Legal Services* with a focus on providing exceptional customer service while focusing on real estate law, will drafting/estate planning and general commercial contract review.
Jennifer is a proud Maritimer and mother of two. Since moving to Northumberland County she has found a passion for being involved in her community. When she’s not working, you can find Jennifer coaching her daughters’ sports, cheering on her favourite teams, knitting, reading or spending time with her family.
Jennifer is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Westben, a member of the Board of Directors of the Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce, an organizer of the NoCo Mom & Baby Group and a organizer of the annual HoHo NoCo holiday charity event. She has been involved with many organizations including the Help and Legal Centre of Northumberland, The Alzheimer’s Society of Durham Region and many others.

Chantalle Fish advocates in a broad range of civil litigation matters, skillfully weaving throughout her practice her scholarship in the fields of psychology, education, and conflict resolution. Chantalle has a special focus on estate litigation, guardianship applications, employment law, and construction law. She enjoys estate planning with her clients, drafting comprehensive Wills and Powers of Attorney.
Chantalle is a proud alumna of Queen’s Law, where she earned her Juris Doctorate with numerous awards and distinctions, including the Bronze Scholar Award. Chantalle served on Queen’s Legal Aid, the Education Equity Program, and as student editor of the Queen’s Law Journal. Chantalle also holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Education from D’Youville College in New York.
Chantalle began her career in New York City. She practiced at a large international firm in civil litigation, focusing on securities, business torts, contract disputes, and white-collar crime. Chantalle also had an active pro bono practice advocating for victims of political persecution seeking asylum in the United States.
Upon returning home, Chantalle worked in criminal extraditions at the Department of Justice and a small litigation firm in Toronto. Chantalle also taught as a law professor and managed the Paralegal program at Humber College.
Chantalle enjoys roaming the hills of Northumberland, engaging in our community, and exploring creativity through knitting. She is also committed to educating professionals about the science of polyvagal theory and how we shape our nervous system for safety and success.

Irosha Perera is a dedicated civil litigation lawyer who believes in the power of the law to make a difference in people’s lives. Her approach to the law is fueled by a genuine desire to help others navigate their most challenging moments, and she takes pride in being a steadfast advocate for their rights. She holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Peace and Conflicts Studies from the University of Waterloo. Irosha earned her Juris Doctor at Bond University in Queensland, Australia, where she honed her skills in advocacy and legal analysis. She articled in a prominent litigation firm in Mississauga, focusing on personal injury law.
Outside of practicing the law, Irosha is an adventurer at heart. Whether she’s exploring new hiking trails, experimenting with fresh recipes, or caring for her ever-growing collection of plants, she’s always embracing life’s little joys. A passionate advocate for animals, she’d deeply committed to their welfare, and her travels often include visiting animal sanctuaries and exploring the natural habitats of creatures she adores. Her love for animals and nature keeps her grounded and inspires her daily work, reminding her of the importance of compassion and care in everything she does.

Cait studied Biology and Political Science at McGill University before completing her J.D. at Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law in 2025. During her J.D., Cait participated in several mooting competitions and discovered a love for oral advocacy. Upon graduating, Cait received a specialization in Aboriginal and Indigenous Law and achieved First Class Standing. As an associate at Schmidt Law, Cait’s practice area is civil litigation.
Outside of the office, Cait enjoys playing sports of all kinds, travelling to new places, watching reality TV, and spending time with loved ones. She is a passionate advocate for environmental and Indigenous rights, and allows empathy to colour her everyday decision-making. Cait has extensive experience volunteering at home and abroad, and she looks forward to getting involved in the Northumberland community.

Leta Friesen has many years of experience in Real Estate and Condominium Law.
Leta has worked with the renowned Condominium Lawyer, Gerry Hyman, Q.C. for many years.

Renee is a resident of Trent Hills who holds a Paralegal diploma from Durham College.
Renee worked in a Toronto firm for several years before joining Schmidt Law Legal Services, bringing with her administrative and customer service experience.

Alison Herron is a Cobourg native who holds a Legal Administration/Law Clerk designation from Durham College.
Alison worked in a large Toronto firm for several years before returning to her home town to join Mann McCracken Bebee & Schmidt, and subsequently Schmidt Law Legal Services*.

Stefanie Jones is a Northumberland County native who holds a dual diploma in Paralegal/Law Clerk from Sir Sandford Fleming College. Stefanie worked for a few local law firms before joining Schmidt Law and has an extensive background in customer service

Katie graduated with honours from Centennial College’s Legal Administration Program in 2010, launching a fulfilling career in the legal field. Over the following ten years, she had the opportunity to work at two of Toronto’s prominent law firms, gaining experience in legal administration, client service, and office operations within fast-paced legal environments.
For the past five years, she has been a stay-at-home mom but now is excited to bring her professional expertise to Schmidt Law as a Law Clerk at our Port Hope office.

Petroula is a new resident of Northumberland County and is excited to be a part of our growing team. She holds a BAA in Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson University. She has worked in various capacities throughout her career bringing with her over 30 years of exceptional customer service and administrative experience.

Olga Tryfonova holds an Interpreter/Translator certificate the Ukrainian Institute of Information Technologies and speaks 4 languages.
Having worked in different areas of law in Ukraine and then in Canada, Olga recently studied real estate law at the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario. She joins Schmidt Law Legal Services* with many years of exceptional customer service.

Hannah is a Cobourg native who took a few years after high school to find what she really wanted to do. She has now graduated with honours from Centennial College’s Legal Office Administration Program.
She did her school work placement with the office in April 2024 and in fall 2024 has rejoined our team as a full-time receptionist.
